Breaking: Jacob Elordi Is Still Hot in Frankenstein
Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein movie presents an intriguing new concept: What if Frankenstein’s creation had Jacob Elordi’s cheekbones? Well, I’m listening! On Friday, Netflix shared a stunning headshot of Elordi’s character, who is credited as “The Creature.” I assume we have all hung out with enough pedantic nerds to know by now that Frankenstein is the doctor, in this case played by Oscar Isaac in a jaunty little hat. Let’s take a look at del Toro and Elordi’s interpretation, shall we?
Well, there’s no way around it. He’s hot. I appreciate the cheek contour, which makes this version of the classic monster look like a Balenciaga model. I’m also loving his long, beautiful hair and the one tendril carefully placed in front of his face. The cherry on top is Elordi’s steely gaze, reminiscent of the one Robert Pattinson was always pulling in the Twilight movies. Unlike the classic Boris Karloff version of the character (green, square, bolts), this Creature makes you think … Maybe I would.
Importantly, the depiction of the Creature as kind of sexy isn’t coming out of nowhere. A Creature that looks gross while also kind of looking like Jacob Elordi is, in fact, accurate to the source material. In Mary Shelley’s book, Victor Frankenstein is trying to make a hot guy and actually gets really upset when he doesn’t pull it off.
How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!
The hair Elordi is sporting is also canon, with Shelley describing it in the novel as “lustrous black” and “flowing” hair. It is perhaps more of a deep chestnut here, but I’ll let it slide. For sexy Frankenstein(’s creature)? I’d let a lot slide.
