Danny Masterson’s Ex-Wife, Bijou Phillips, Is Changing Their Daughter’s Name
It’s been two years since That ’70s Show star Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life for raping two women. Now, his ex-wife, Bijou Phillips — who filed for divorce shortly after his sentencing — is reportedly taking steps to change their daughter’s name. On Friday, according to People, Phillips filed to swap their 11-year-old’s last name to her own. A California judge will now review the request, which would change Fianna Francis Masterson’s name to Fianna Francis Phillips.
In 2017, five women accused Masterson of sexual assault with several claiming the Church of Scientology pressured them against reporting the actor. (Both Masterson and his accusers were Scientologists.) He was convicted on two counts of rape during a 2023 trial, while the jury deadlocked on a third rape charge. Masterson never took the stand during his trial and did not speak at his sentencing hearing, but his lawyer said following the 2023 trial that he maintains his innocence.
Phillips was a regular fixture at her then-husband’s trial and was frequently seen walking into court with him. Prior to his sentencing, more than 50 people — including Masterson’s former That ’70s Show co-stars Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher — submitted letters to the judge asking for leniency in his sentence. Phillips was among them, writing in her letter that Masterson was a “life-saving partner,” an “extraordinary husband,” and a “devoted father to our daughter.” In the immediate aftermath of his sentencing, sources close to Phillips told People she had “no plans to file for divorce.” She filed for divorce less than two weeks later.
