How do two musical artists pull off the New York wedding of the century? Throw it at the Chelsea Hotel, pass out copies of Patti Smith’s Just Kids that double as seating assignments, and get your close friend and collaborator Rufus Wainwright to sing a surprise a cappella rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel #2.” Such was the feat pulled off by singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen and Grammy-winning music producer Cole Marsden Greif-Neill, or Cole M.G.N, who got married earlier this month at the bohemian institution. “We knew we wanted a location that meant something to us, and the Chelsea Hotel had become a home away from home every time we were in New York,” Jepsen told Vogue. “As artists, its iconic history and lore made it that much more appealing.”

The charming event, punctuated by pops of baby-blue and red wildflowers, celebrated love between the two artists, who met during a songwriting session in 2021 and later got engaged at the Hotel Castello di Reschio in Umbria in September 2024. For the occasion, Jepsen opted for a gown from Australian designer Toni Maticevski and a second dress for the reception from local New York designer (and queen of chic wedding gowns) Danielle Frankel. “We knew we were trying to get pregnant, so I also wanted an alternative dress that was much more flowy that I could sub in for the ceremony or just change into for dancing,” Jepsen said of her attire. (As far as we know, the couple has not released a pregnancy announcement.) Cole, meanwhile, wore a cream suit from Husbands in Paris and rocked some shoes by Gucci. The bridesmaids were all dressed in a jewel-toned color palette, though they each chose their own dresses, while the groomsmen had no dress code.

After the ceremony, which was officiated by Jepsen’s aunt and uncle and included the exchanging of handwritten vows, the evening transitioned into a cocktail party. As a nod to the first book Jepsen gifted her husband, guests received a copy of Leonard Cohen’s Book of Longing or Smith’s Just Kids (another of the couple’s favorites) with bookmarks that directed them to their seats. Later, Jepsen’s childhood friend Molly Ryan sang with her jazz trio, and the Grammy-winning Wainwright — who collaborated on Jepsen’s single “The Loneliest Time” — gave a surprise serenade.

“This felt like a once-in-a-lifetime New York moment,” Jepsen said. And for a woman who was first introduced to the world via “Call Me Maybe” before giving us Emotion’s B-side, I’d say she deserves her happily ever after. Congratulations to the happy couple.
