Jeremy O. Harris Was Released From Custody in Japan
Jeremy O. Harris was reportedly released from custody in Japan on Monday following his arrest three weeks ago. The Slave Play playwright had been taken in on suspicion of drug smuggling after flying into Okinawa, where Japanese authorities say they found 780 milligrams of MDMA in his carry-on bag.
A spokesperson for the Tomishiro Police Station in Okinawa’s Tomigusuku declined to tell the New York Times whether or not Harris had been charged. A representative for Harris told the paper that he was released without charges and that he intended to stay in the country working on a future project. Had he been charged, Harris would have faced seven years in prison if found guilty on drug charges.
A representative for Harris did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
