White House targets 'The View,' Joy Behar over Trump criticism
The White House is blasting ABC's "The View" and co-host Joy Behar over her criticism of President Trump, who she said this week is attacking former President Obama because he is "jealous" of him.
"Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome," a White House spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday to Fox News Digital and other media outlets.
"It’s no surprise that ‘The View’s ratings hit an all-time low last year," the spokesperson added. "She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off-air."
On Thursday, Behar sparked brief speculation that "The View" could face scrutiny over its commentary on the president.
"Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show after this, I'm allowed to say that right," Behar said.
"Too late now," co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin joked.
"Before we go, I wanted to tell people that the tide is turning," she said. "And things are changing."
At the end of Thursday's broadcast, co-host Whoopi Golderg clarified by saying ,"Okay ... so this what's going on. We will see you all for another new show, and we'll be back for our new season in September."
Trump has routinely attacked ABC News over its coverage of his administration, and earlier this week suggested Late Night host Jimmy Kimmel could be canceled by the network. ABC has indicated no plans to do so.
The network late last year agreed to pay Trump $15 million to settle a lawsuit the president brought against the company last year, the first of two major settlements Trump has won over major news networks in the last six months.
