What to know about Charlie Kirk memorial arrangements
The memorial service for Charlie Kirk is set for this Sunday morning at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz, Turning Point USA announced on Saturday.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, last Wednesday. The accused gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was taken into custody on Thursday evening and is expected to be formally charged on Tuesday.
State Farm Stadium is the home venue of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, and can hold over 63,000 people. The Cardinals face the San Francisco 49ers on the road in Santa Clara, Calif., Sunday.
The majority of NFL home teams, including the Cardinals, held a moment of silence honoring Kirk before Sunday’s games began.
Doors to Sunday's event will open at 8 a.m. local time, with the program scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
President Trump told reporters Sunday that he will attend Kirk’s memorial. The conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder was a close ally of the administration.
“A very sad weekend. We lost a great person. I'll be going on early Sunday morning. We're going to Arizona, taking some people with us, on Air Force One,” Trump said. The president also said on Thursday that he will posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Vice President Vance and his wife, Usha, traveled to Salt Lake City on Thursday and flew with Kirk’s casket to Phoenix on Air Force Two. The vice president said in a post on X Sunday that he will host the Charlie Kirk Show, Kirk’s podcast, at 12 p.m. EST on Monday.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and two children. On Friday, in her first public remarks since her husband’s murder, Kirk’s widow said, “to everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die.”
