Cruz says he is 'erasing evil' by painting over anti-Charlie Kirk graffiti on Texas highway

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Sunday he was “erasing evil” by painting over anti-Charlie Kirk graffiti on a highway in his state.

“Some deranged bastard put this graffiti on the 59 freeway in Houston. TXDOT has been notified & I’m sure sure they will remove it expeditiously,” Cruz said in a post on the social platform X.

“But, in the meantime, Texans don’t have to look at this hateful garbage anymore,” he added.

Cruz’s post featured two photos of himself, one where he appears to begin painting over graffiti that reads “F‑‑‑ CHARLIE KIRK” and another in which he is standing next to where the graffiti was, now covered with white paint.

In a follow-up post, Cruz featured a video of himself in the process of painting over the graffiti, captioning it “Erasing evil.”

Kirk was speaking at an event Wednesday at Utah Valley University when he was fatally shot. Following a manhunt featuring local, state and federal law enforcement, officials identified the alleged suspect as Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah.

“Charlie Kirk was a friend and he is now a martyr. He has gone home to the Lord whose message he faithfully shared with anyone willing to listen. We love you, Charlie, and we’ll never forget your voice,” Cruz said in a post Thursday.

On Friday, New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman said President Trump and staff around him were “struggling” in the wake of Kirk’s death.

“So many people around President Trump are very close to Charlie Kirk. President Trump was very close to Charlie Kirk. And President Trump faced two assassination attempts, one near miss last year,” Haberman said on CNN.
