3 officers killed, 2 wounded in Pennsylvania

Three officers were killed and two were injured in southeastern Pennsylvania, the governor said Wednesday.

“This afternoon, three law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in York County,” Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) said in a post on the social platform X on Wednesday night.

“Two more officers were shot and are currently in critical but stable condition, receiving treatment at WellSpan York Hospital, where I visited with their families today,” he added. “These officers represent the very best of us. They put their lives on the line to serve their community, their Commonwealth, and their country.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi also said in a post on the social platform X that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the FBI were on scene to offer support.

“Violence against law enforcement is a scourge on our society and never acceptable. Pray for the officers involved,” she added in her Wednesday evening post.

The Associated Press reported that officers were following up on a domestic-related investigation in rural York County when shooting began, with the shooter being taken out by police.

In the wake of the shooting, according to the AP, police and emergency vehicles made their way to the coroner’s office, with community members saluting and carrying American flags.
