Trump on his Kirk memorial speech: ‘I’m just gonna give them my love’

President Trump said Sunday it was a "tough day" as he and numerous other White House officials traveled to Arizona for a memorial for Charlie Kirk.

"I’m just going to give them my love. There’s nothing much you can say," Trump told reporters as he left the White House when asked for his message to Kirk's family.
 
"He’s had a tremendous influence. For a young man, he did a great job. A tremendous job," Trump added. "He had a hold on youth because they loved him. They respected him. And if you go back 10 years, those colleges were dangerous places for conservatives. And now they’re hot. They’re very hot. Just like this country is hot."

The White House is taking two government planes to Arizona for Kirk’s memorial, reflecting the number of officials who will attend the event. White House trade adviser Peter Navarro, communications director Steven Cheung and deputy chief of staff James Blair were among those on board.

The president, Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are among the administration officials expected to speak at Kirk’s memorial in Arizona. 

The conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder was killed earlier this month during an appearance at Utah Valley University.

“That something like this could’ve happened is not even believable,” Trump said Sunday. “Will be a very interesting day. A very tough day.”
