Court doc suggests Hulk Hogan's family investigating his medical treatment

0

(WFLA) — Court documents filed in Florida indicate the late Hulk Hogan's family has requested an investigation into whether the doctors who treated the professional wrestling icon committed medical malpractice.

Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, died July 24 at age 71 after suffering what the medical examiner concluded was a heart attack at his beachfront home in Clearwater, Fla. The report described his death as "natural," but police said in late August they were still investigating.

Hogan's wife, Sky Daily, along with his son, Nicholas Bollea, filed a petition in a Pinellas County court Tuesday asking for a 90-day extension of the statute of limitations in which a medical malpractice lawsuit can be filed. According to the document, the investigation involves doctors and health care providers at Morton Plant Hospital, where Hogan was pronounced dead, as well as medical professionals at Tampa General Hospital.

A cremation approval report released in late July noted the wrestling superstar had a history of “atrial fibrillation,” an irregular heartbeat in the upper chambers of the heart, and leukemia before his death.

It's unclear exactly what police have been looking into in their investigation, but detectives have said they've been working with Hogan's family.

The Clearwater Police Department provided a statement to The Associated Press in August that said the “unique nature of this case has required us to interview multiple witnesses and seek medical records from a variety of providers, and our detectives continue to do that.”

So far, no one has been accused of any wrongdoing. However, Tuesday's filing indicates Hogan's family is exploring the possibility.
