Watch live: Trump speaks with Senate Republicans as shutdown hits record 36 days
President Trump on Wednesday morning will host Republicans senators at the White House for a breakfast as the government shutdown reached a record 36 days.
His remarks also come after an evening of election losses for the GOP in several key races across the U.S. Trump has placed some of that blame on Republican leaders' decision not to eliminate the filibuster rule despite 14 failed votes to pass a continuing resolution to reopen the government.
He wrote late Tuesday on Truth Social, as election results poured in, "REPUBLICANS, TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER! GET BACK TO PASSING LEGISLATION AND VOTER REFORM!"
Despite the push, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said the votes would not be there to nix the 60-vote rule and that his opinion of the safeguard has not changed.
The event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. EST.
