Tottenham Hotspur will likely be looking to strengthen their back-line this summer transfer window, particularly having gone on a 16-month hiatus from signing players.
Pochettino has particularly struggled in the right-back position this season, with the likes of Trippier, Aurier, and Walker-Peters all making high profile errors.
Trippier recently openly admitted that he has not been good enough this season (SkySports), while he has also been linked with a summer move away from the club (Metro).
Aurier has struggled with injury problems, and can be a little defensively naive when playing in a back four.
Kyle Walker-Peters was largely unused this season, but made one high-profile mistake in the Champions League against Barcelona. However, he looks to be a very promising prospect.
Ex-Spurs star Jamie O’Hara has now revealed that he would cash in on Serge Aurier this summer, while keeping Trippier to compete for another season.
Spurs signed Aurier for £23m from PSG back in 2017 (BBC), but would surely want to recoup the majority of this fee.
O’Hara said (Final Word on TalkSPORT – 02/06/19 5:50 pm): “They need to sign a right-back. I would cash in on Aurier then I would get someone to compete with Trippier because I think he has had an off-season but he has a fantastic talent.
“I’ve been saying [Tottenham need to spend] £100 million [this summer], but what does £100 million get you these days? £50 million on a fullback.
“They need to sign another midfield player and they need to sign a centre-forward because Harry Kane does get injured quite often and Llorente is not good enough to step up to the plate.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I completely agree with O’Hara. Out of the three, Aurier has to be the one to go for me. Bring in a top-class right-back to slot in as the first choice, up Walker-Peters’ role at the club and use the experience of Trippier in a back five system when rotating the squad.
