Tottenham Hotspur struggled at right-back last season and I believe that changes need to be made if Pochettino is to strengthen the position this summer.
In my opinion, Serge Aurier is and always has been the weakest right-back at the club. While his pace and physicality dig him out of some holes, he simply doesn’t have a footballing brain.
I appreciate that Kieran Trippier had an awful season in a Lilywhite shirt, but I also believe that he has shown enough talent and loyalty in the past to warrant a second chance.
The England man was used as a scapegoat last season when things weren’t going Tottenham’s way, and that wasn’t fair. We should learn from what happened with Moussa Sissoko on that front.
I also believe that Kyle Walker-Peters was not given anywhere near enough of a chance at right-back, especially when the previous two were out of form.
The academy graduate has promise, but he isn’t a youngster anymore and he simply has to be given some minute on the pitch.
As a result, I would be all for selling Serge Aurier, which was rumoured in a Daily Mail article. I would then have Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters remain at the club for another year.
On top of this, I would want Spurs to sign free transfer Dani Alves on a one-year deal to provide some extra big-game experience.
The Brazilian legend has been linked with a move to Spurs this summer (Sun). In my opinion, we would have the youth and pace of Walker-Peters, the crossing and wing-back ability of Trippier, and the wisdom and experience of Alves to utilise.
