Tottenham Hotspur had an extremely productive transfer window, managing to bring in the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon, and Jack Clarke.
However, there was some disappointment among Spurs fans as an audacious move for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala fell through on deadline day.
The Independent explained that it was the problems that arose due to the third-party ownership of Dybala’s image rights that rendered any potential deal impossible before the 5 pm deadline on Thursday.
Some Spurs fans may have had hopes that perhaps Tottenham could return for the 25-year-old attacker in January.
However, Juve manager Maurizio Sarri has now made a remark about Juventus’ bloated squad that seems to suggest that Dybala will likely be sold this summer.
Football.London quotes the former Chelsea boss as saying, “I can talk about Paulo all I like, but the market goes in a certain way and then whatever I say counts for nothing.
“I think he has the right characteristics to play as a false centre forward. But in any case, we have to cut six players from the Champions League list.
“Our situation is difficult, almost embarrassing, because we run the risk of leaving out players of a really high level. It’s a situation we have to resolve and it is not just about the decisions made by coach or club.”
With the European transfer market open till the 2nd of September, Sarri’s comments indicate that Juventus will try and move Dybala on this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
A deal for Dybala was always going to be unlikely but the fact that Daniel Levy was willing to pay the transfer fee and wages that were required was certainly a good sign for the club. Let’s hope Tottenham continue to show the same sort of intent in the coming transfer windows.
