Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have had very contrasting starts to the season, with one making headlines for an unbeaten run and the other falling short of expectation.
Liverpool have won all but one of their Premier League games so far this season, with an away draw at Old Trafford the only blotch on their record.
Meanwhile, Spurs have won just three games from a possible nine, drawing three, and losing three to Newcastle United, Leicester City, and Brighton.
The Lilywhites sit in seventh, while Liverpool are comfortably at the top of the Premier League table. However, Danny Murphy, an ex-Spurs and Liverpool player, argues that the league leaders would still take Harry Kane over Roberto Firmino.
Kane has nine goals and one assist from 12 games so far for Spurs this season (Transfer Markt), compared to Firmino’s three goals and eight assists in 14 games (Transfer Markt).
The Brazilian is more creative, but Kane is amongst the goals. Which would you prefer?
Murphy said (TalkSPORT 23/10/19 at 5:20 pm): “He’s certainly capable of playing in any team in the world. He has the lot already. He is the finished article. He has a strong mentality. Physically very good, and when he’s fit and at it, he is one of the best. I think he has a big decision to make.
“If Kane were to be in City or Liverpool’s team they aren’t going to be any weaker, are they? No. He could play instead of Aguero. And I think you would take him ahead of Firmino. I don’t want that to underestimate Firmino’s importance to Liverpool, but if you were Jurgen Klopp and you said you can have Kane? He’d score more goals.”
