Tottenham Hotspur have certainly improved since the appointment of Jose Mourinho back in late November, as the Special One has injected some freshness into the squad.
Although Jose has now brought in some new signings of his own in Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan from Benfica, he has also sourced talent from other places.
Young Japhet Tanganga has been the academy success story of the season so far, with the 20-year-old starting to make his mark on the first team.
Tanganga came into the side for his Premier League debut against Liverpool earlier in the season, with Mourinho throwing him in at the deep end.
However, the youngster managed to mark Mo Salah and Sadio Mane out the game and has since gone on to lock down a fairly regular place in the starting line-up, featuring at centre-back, left-back, and right-back.
Tanganga has now spoken on how he and Spurs are developing under Mourinho (Mirror): “We’ve shown great fight and great determination since Mourinho came in. We’ve grown quite a lot, we go down but we always manage to pull through so that is a sign of a growing team.
“Obviously, it’s nice that people are taking notice of me but it’s important I remain focused and enjoy the game.
“For me, it’s just taking one game at a time and waiting for the manager to tell me when to start or just being on the bench.
“It’s just being ready to go when the manager needs me. It’s a big deal to be playing at this level.
“I’ve still got to learn a lot to improve but it’s a great experience and I’m enjoying it game by game.
“I say this a lot, my dad he’s sacrificed a lot for me and done all he could to make sure that I get to this level, so just seeing him smile makes me really happy and tells me what this means to him.
“Then my friends I have been with since I was eleven at secondary school – we all had different dreams but seeing them watching my games and cheering me on and being supportive shows I’m in good hands.”
