Report: Transfer expert reveals what Spurs have offered Southampton for Hojbjerg

Tottenham have offered Southampton a players-plus-cash deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the Saints midfielder after he admitted to the club he wants to play at a higher level (Sport 1).

Since making his long-term wishes known, Hojbjerg has been stripped of the Southampton captaincy (BBC).

Castles did not reveal which player has been offered to Southampton, however, he admits it is just one of three offers the Saints have received for the midfielder.

“Southampton see him as a player they have to sell in this market,” said Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast.

“They, I’m told, have three offers so far for the player, none of them are satisfactory, one extremely low at a financial level, and they have an offer of cash plus players in exchange, which I understand has come from Tottenham Hotspur.”

The former Bayern Munich midfielder is out of contract at St. Mary’s next summer, so it is likely that the Saints will take this opportunity to cash in on the 24-year-old.

“My information is that Jose Mourinho likes Hojbjerg and he sees him as a player obviously with substantial Premier League experience who he can bring into the centre of his midfield, can play a couple of positions in midfield at a relatively low cost, and solves some of the problems he sees in that squad,” Castles added.

The Daily Express reported Spurs attempted to bring the Dane to N17 in January, but after failing will reignite their interest this summer.

Given our reported low transfer budget, this would be a great way of dealing this summer. Not only would a potential deal get us Hojbjerg, but it would save on the transfer fee and could possibly get rid of some ‘dead wood’ from the wage bill.
