Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to express his shock at Tottenham’s equaliser against Sheffield United being ruled out in the 3-1 defeat at Bramall Lane.
The incident occurred immediately after the home side took the lead in the 31st minute.
Spurs went up the other and Lucas Moura was bundled down by Sheffield United defenders as the ball broke to Harry Kane, who wrong-footed a defender before slotted it into the back of the net.
However, the VAR for the game, Michael Oliver, ruled that ball had struck Moura’s arm before it rebounded to Kane and the goal was subsequently ruled out.
It was a pivotal moment in the match and one that left Jose Mourinho seething, with replays showing that the ball had merely been thumped against a falling Moura.
Lineker, much like the rest of us, expressed his disbelief that the goal was chalked off.
The former Spurs striker tweeted out: “The game’s gone.”
The game’s gone.

The BBC Match of the Day presenter pointed out how the new handball laws, when combined with the scrutiny of VAR, set an unrealistic standard.
I was recently in discussions with FIFA about law changes, mostly around offside. I mentioned the absurdity of the new handball law. Mr Collina, who I’ve a lot of respect for, couldnt comprehend my hatred of it, and how it’s exacerbated by VAR seeing any flick off a knuckle. ????????♂️

Spurs Web Opinion
While it is certainly ridiculous that it was deemed handball, I do not believe it was VAR’s fault. Due to the new laws, Michael Oliver has no choice but to rule a goal out if it hits an attacker’s arm in the build-up, irrespective of the context. Modifying that law is perhaps something that has to be looked at, especially when each goal is being scrutinised as much as it is VAR.
