Some Spurs fans on social media have expressed their frustration that the Lilywhites passed up on the opportunity to sign Callum Wilson, after the striker scored on his debut for Newcastle to give the Magpies a 2-0 win in their season opener against West Ham.
Newcastle paid £20million to snap up Wilson from Bournemouth last week and it was reported that although the former Cherries star was on Tottenham’s radar, the club decided that the Cherries’ asking price was excessive.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a handful of strikers from across Europe but Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the club are not close to completing any deal as things stand.
Jose Mourinho did not have a striker to turn to on the bench as Tottenham fell to a 1-0 defeat in their season opener against Everton.
Some Spurs fans took to social media to question why the club decided against a move for Wilson and urged Daniel Levy to act quickly to sign a suitable back up to Harry Kane.

Callum Wilson hits the ground running & yet another striker #THFC has passed over! WTF is #levy gonna get a striker in and competition for #Kane not just a backup!? #COYS#WHUNEW
Levy isn't prepared to buy more in unless he sells some first (trouble is we have a paper thin squad so can't really afford to let many go) when you see the likes of Newcastle buying Wilson for £20m (we faffed about and lost out) Same old Spurs. #FFS#emptyseasonagain?
Its pathetic Lee. Weve already seen Callum Wilson earn Newcastle 3 points. IMO he would have been ideal. Whoever we sign now, its obvious they wouldnt have been an original target. It's such a massive failure on behalf of Levy, Hitchin & the clubs scouting.
We desperately need another striker to support Harry Kane and yet another striker gets snapped up by another club. Both Callum Wilson or Ollie Watkins would have been great additions to the squad. Both gone elsewhere. Sign a striker Levy! #thfc#coys#weneedastriker
Getting beyond on a joke now, if it was messi or anyone we couldn't land I would really understand, but it was Callum Wilson ffs. Mr Levy sort yourself.
Fans’ frustrations are understandable given that we could have used a more direct option to call on from the bench against Everton. So, it appears as if our lack of urgency in the transfer market has ended up costing us points once again.
However, we should reserve judgement until we see who we manage to sign this summer. Wilson would have certainly been a useful option for us but if we end up landing someone like Arkadiusz Milik, then I certainly will not be complaining.
