Ryan Sessegnon has admitted that he spoke to Arsenal winger, Reiss Nelson before completing a loan move to Hoffenheim at the start of the month.
Sessegnon joined the Bundesliga side on a season-long loan deal just before the European transfer deadline and has since come on as a substitute in two league games and started both of their matches in the Europa League (transfermark.com).
The Tottenham loanee received a lot of praise for his performance against Red Star last week as Hoffenheim emerged 2-0 winners.
He completed another ninety minutes in Europe this week as the German side thrashed Gent 4-1 in Belgium.
The 20-year-old will be hoping to build on the promising start he has made to his loan spell and establish himself as a regular in Sebastian Hoeness’ side.
It turns out that the England Under-21 teammate, Nelson, who spent the 2018-19 season on loan at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, gave him a glowing endorsement of the club.
When asked if he spoke to the former Arsenal man about Hoffenheim, Sessegnon told Kicker (as relayed by Sport Witness): “He only told me positives, which made my decision even easier”.
Speaking about his own attributes, the youngster said: “I’m a left-back who likes to attack.
“And over the years I’ve improved my ability to find the right moments to attack, because my main job is to defend. I try to find a good balance in my game.
“Attractive attacking football with playful solutions even from the last line – that helps me a lot in the position I play.”
