Some Tottenham fans on social media were impressed with Joe Rodon’s display as the club emerged with a 3-1 win against Sheffield United this afternoon.
Jose Mourinho decided to change to a back three at Bramall Lane, with Rodon and Ben Davies starting either side of Eric Dier, and Serge Aurier and Sergio Reguilon given the freedom to get forward.
This was only Rodon’s second Premier League start and the young defender showed terrific composure throughout the ninety minutes.
His decision making was almost flawless and he made a couple of crucial blocks and interceptions when his fellow defenders were caught out.
The 23-year-old certainly showed maturity beyond his years and did not do any harm to his prospects of getting more game time in the second half of the season.
Some Spurs fans even suggested on the back of his performance against the Blades that he was the best centre-back at the club and called for Mourinho to start him in every match.
Our best CB. Start him every game and sign another defender to partner him this month.

Play players based on merit. Rodon has been good whenever he’s been given an opportunity. Keep him in the team now.

Joe Rodon has the potential to be a top premier league CB.

Joe Rodon was absolutely immense today. The plaudits will rightfully go Ndombeles way today but what a gem Rodon is. Superb in the air, excellent tackler, reads the game so well.
Should hopefully be the end of Sánchez in any remotely important games. #THFC

I’ve seen more from Joe Rodon this game alone than from all our CB’s this season.

I’ve seen enough, start Rodon every week

Rodon is our best CB btw

Thought Rodon had a great game. Solid, showed pace and prepared to throw himself around.
Would like to see him get a run in the team.
Rodon with Toby is still my preferred pairing though.

Spurs Web Opinion
Rodon showed that he has all the attributes needed to be a top central defender and it is clear why he was so highly rated at Swansea and is such an important part of the Wales set up.
However, Spurs fans have to be careful not to overreact as the narratives around centre-backs change very quickly if they make a mistake or two.
If one of his two errors in his debut against Chelsea had been punished, there would be a lot more doubts about him. The 23-year-old certainly showed a lot of promise but he has a long way to go.
