Former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Guys Poyet has admitted that he felt sorry for Son Heung-min during Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to the Blues on Thursday considering the home side could not get the ball to the South Korean.
Son has been on fire in front of goal this season and is currently sitting joint-second in the race for the Golden Boot, with 12 strikes to his name so far.
However, the 28-year-old’s goals have dried up a bit recently, with the forward not having not found the back of the net in a league game since Spurs beat Leeds 3-0 on January 2nd.
Spurs fans would have been hoping that Son steps up and produces the firepower with Harry Kane out injured but the former Bayer Leverkusen man has struggled in the England captain’s absence due to a lack of supply.
Jose Mourinho’s men looked toothless in attack during the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, with Son as well as the other forwards enduring a frustrating evening.
Poyet admitted that the former Bayer Leverkusen seemed desperate for a chance to come his way during Thursday’s clash.
The former Tottenham first-team coach told Stadium Astro: “Normally the offensive players are certain exceptions.
“They are the ones who want to play, they want to get onto the ball.
“I felt sorry a little bit for Son today in certain moments, he couldn’t get on the ball, he couldn’t get closer and he couldn’t get in positions to have a shot.
“He was desperate to have a chance.”
Spurs Web Opinion
If we continue setting up in the manner that we have been for the last couple of weeks, I fear that the confidence of players like Son and Bergwijn will take a huge hit. Our forwards are feeding on scraps at the moment as there seems to be very little pattern to our attacking build-up.
