Six months into his loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur, Gareth Bale seems to finally be showing signs of getting back to his best.
The Welshman produced his best performance since his return to Spurs in the 4-0 win over Burnley yesterday, scoring two goals and setting up one another.
The 31-year-old has now managed four goals and three assists in his last four appearances in all competitions and Jose Mourinho admitted that the wide man is in a much better place in terms of his fitness and confidence in his body.
It was not too long ago that the on-Real Madrid star was completely written off by some, but the Wales international is now proving his critics wrong.
It was not just pundits who questioned Bale’s desire and quality but the winger’s own agent Jonathan Barnett recently admitted that his client might be coming to the end of his career.
When asked about why Bale is not playing regularly, Barnett said: “He’s towards the end of his career. You have to ask Mourinho that.”
Danny Mills has suggested that the Tottenham star’s agent was simply trying to justify the player’s struggles this season and insisted that the experienced wide man has nothing to prove.
Speaking about Barnett’s statement, Mills told Football Insider: “Sometimes an agent is looking to justify why he hasn’t quite performed and how he can justify a move a little bit further down the line at the end of the season.
“There’s all sorts going on in that situation and scenario.
“He’s been sensational and he’s got nothing to prove to anybody, but himself.
“If he wants to get back to his best he’s just got to work incredibly hard, he’ll need a little bit of luck along the way but it comes down to hard work, desire and sacrifice.
“If he’s prepared to do that, then there’s no reason why we can’t see the old Gareth Bale.”

I, like many Spurs fans, feared when Barnett said what he did about Bale a couple of weeks ago that it was perhaps a sign the Welshman simply did not feel his body could cope with the demands of football at the top level.
However, we have since seen very clear signs that the 31-year-old is coming back to his best. If he can stay fit for the rest of the season, I believe he could be a major asset for us over the coming months.
