Jose Mourinho has claimed that Tottenham are not get carried away by their performance and win over Burnley, insisting that they are fully focussed on their job at hand.
There was plenty of doom and gloom surrounding Spurs until a week ago, with Mourinho’s future at the club being questioned due to the club’s poor run of form.
However, two back to back 4-0 wins over Wolfsberger and Burnley seems to have restored some optimism about the North Londoners’ prospects this season.
The win on Sunday has taken Spurs to within six points off West Ham in fourth with a game in hand.
Additionally, Gareth Bale also showed signs over the last few weeks that he is coming back to his best just as we approach the business end of the season.
However, Mourinho implored the media not to be more balanced in their appraisal after both wins and losses.
When asked if Tottenham will now play a brand of football that he envisaged after getting key players back from injury, the Portuguese coach told Football.London: “Come on, I don’t want to speak much. It is difficult to answer as we won 4-0 in a game that we played very, very well and suddenly it looks like my methods are good again and Gareth Bale is a top player again, and we play wonderfully.
“Come on! Don’t kill us when the results are bad but also don’t make it we are in the top of the world [now].
“Let us focus on our job and of course we want to play well, score goals and we don’t want to concede. We want to play attacking football and of course, we want the best and always the best but sometimes it is not possible.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The performance and result against Burnley was very encouraging but it will mean nothing if we fail to get at least four points from our next two matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace. A defeat at Craven Cottage this evening will destroy the momentum and will come as a bitter blow to the players’ confidence. So the result against Fulham could have a huge bearing on our top four chances.
