Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth is wanted by Villarreal on a permanent basis.
The Argentine joined the Spanish outfit in the summer on a season long loan deal which also saw him put pen to paper on a 12-month contract extension at Spurs that runs until 2023 (Sky Sports).
The Yellow Submarine are currently in seventh place in La Liga and are also in the last sixteen of the Europa League, where they hold a 2-0 advantage over Dynamo Kyiv heading into the second leg on Thursday.
Spanish news outlet AS claim that there clause in Foyth’s contract allowing Villarreal to turn his loan deal into a permanent transfer for a fee of £14 million, however, Unai Emery’s side could struggle to meet the price tag due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Foyth joined Tottenham from Estudiantes in 2017 and broke into the first team during the 2018/19 season under Mauricio Pochettino.
“He has given us what we expected. His performances have been very good, he has performed at a high, very high level.
“Would I like to keep him? The truth is that this is something that we must wait for, but if it were up to me, yes, I would keep him with us.”
