Tottenham Hotspur are back to winning ways and Ryan Mason now has a 100% record in charge of the club after taking over from Jose Mourinho this week.
Let’s take a look at the five things we learned:
Ryan Mason – Ryan Mason became the youngster ever Premier League manager/head coach this evening. What a story for this guy from academy youngster to first-teamer to early retirement and now this. Congrats, Ryan! One of our own.
Can only look forward – Spurs are way behind in the race for top four but no one looks convincing at the moment. With the shackles off in attack and others dropping points, never say never…
Bringing in from the cold – It seemed as if Ryan Mason really wanted to bring players in from the cold after taking charge. Bale was back in the XI, while the likes of Sanchez, Winks and Bergwijn were on the bench. Perhaps trying to lift the mood and get some togetherness back.
With Sunday in mind – This was essentially Mason’s trial for the cup final this weekend. I believe this is why Rodon was dropped, as the Welshman can’t play in the Carabao Cup. The back four, I would assume will remain the same against Man City and Mason likely wanted to try out a few things in attack.
The issue with Giovani Lo Celso – I am still adamant that Lo Celso’s best position is deep-lying midfield. More Luka Modric than Christian Eriksen, if you will. The Argentine is class at receiving the ball with his back to goal, dropping a shoulder and driving through the heart of the pitch. He doesn’t look at home picking the lock in a number 10 role.
