Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has admitted Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new head coach has become ‘ridiculous‘.
Tottenham’s attempts to replace Jose Mourinho has turned into somewhat of a protracted process with the club having called off talks with Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca and faced a backlash from supporters when Gennaro Gattuso was said to have been in talks (Guardian).
Former Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo has now emerged as a leading candidate to succeed his compatriot in North London with Fabio Paratici holding the 47-year-old in high regard.
Kenny believes that Tottenham have had ample time to get a new man in place and finds the situation strange that they have so far failed to confirm a replacement.
He speculated whether the problem could be down to whether candidates are turning down the role, or potentially not seeing themselves as a fit for Daniel Levy or Harry Kane’s uncertain future at the club could be an issue.
He joked that he is set to be the next person in line to interview for the job when speaking to Football Insider: “I’m going for my interview now,”
“I don’t know whether the managers that are turning them down are disagreeing with Daniel Levy or whether the Harry Kane situation is putting them off.
“It’s getting closer to the start of pre-season and they haven’t even got a manager.
“Mourinho left before the end of last season so they’ve had plenty of time, it’s not like he’s only just gone. It’s ridiculous.
“I just find it so strange that a club of Tottenham’s stature don’t have a manager or plan in place by now.”

Tottenham’s search for a new head coach has been a complete disaster having experienced the highs of a potential Pochettino reunion or the prospect of someone of Conte’s calibre taking over, now we are faced with Espírito Santo who has hardly pulled up trees at Molineux trying to get us back into the top four.
