Spanish journalist, Alvaro Montero has said that he expects rumoured Tottenham target Jules Kounde to snub a move to the Premier League in favour of joining Real Madrid.
There has been plenty of speculation linking Kounde with a move to Spurs over the last month but it has become evident over the last week that Spurs are prioritising a deal for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero this summer.
Football.London have claimed that signing Romero might not necessarily stop the North Londoners from also making a move for Kounde, with Sevilla’s interest in Davinson Sanchez giving the Lilywhites an advantage in their pursuit of the Frenchman.
However, Fabrizio Romano revealed on Wednesday that Chelsea had begun talks with Sevilla regarding the 22-year-old while Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the centre-back.
Montero has claimed that Kounde is the player that the Real Madrid hierarchy are keen on signing, insisting that he expects the French international to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu next summer if not this one.
The journalist told Sky Sports: “Now, they (Real Madrid) say it’s almost impossible (to replace Varane) because they don’t want to spend a lot of money.
“But as we say here in Spain ‘the summer is very long’, so let’s see what happens in August.
“If I had to bet for a player that Real Madrid likes then it’s Jules Kounde’s, the French guy from Sevilla.
“The player loves the idea of signing for Real Madrid. But Sevilla will ask almost 70 million Euros. I believe he will wait to play in the Premier League because he’s decided that his dream is to sign for Real Madrid.
“Let us see if this happens this summer. If not then I think it will go next year.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Irrespective of whether Kounde stays in Spain or moves to the Premier League, it seems pretty clear that he is not on his way to Spurs this summer.
I would certainly hate to see Chelsea pick up a player of Kounde’s quality and potential as the 22-year-old’s addition could make Thomas Tuchel’s side title challengers.
