Some Tottenham fans on social media have hailed Serge Aurier after it emerged that the defender had agreed to terminate his contract with the North London club late on transfer deadline day.
Spurs were rumoured to be after a new right-back all summer but they had to wait until deadline day to get a deal for Emerson Royal over the line.
The North London club reportedly tried hard to move Aurier on throughout the transfer window, with the Ivorian being linked with moves to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Lille earlier in the summer, with Real Betis also alleged to have shown interest on deadline day.
However, none of those moves materialised, with Tottenham eventually agreeing to terminate his contract, which was due to run out next summer.
Even though Aurier had put in plenty of good performances over the course of his four years in North London following his £23m move from PSG, the 28-year-old was a divisive figure among the fan base, partly due to being prone to moments of madness he showed when defending.
However, the response to the announcement of his departure was overwhelmingly positive, with some Spurs faithful particularly remembering the time that Aurier started a game for the club just two days after his brother was murdered.
Will always sit with me that he played 2 days after his brother died. Best of luck to him.

Confirmation that Serge Aurier’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
He may have divided opinion, but a great player on his day.
We wish him well! https://t.co/eyuYf4CNpT

Played for us 24 hours after his brother was murdered, will never forget that. Might not have been the answer to Walker leaving, but goes with best wishes. Cheers Serge… https://t.co/56KGernS2s

I will say this about Aurier. His dodgy penalties and what at times seemed like useless fouls were annoying.
But in terms of actual footballing ability, he was better for us than most gave him credit for. I’m pretty shocked we couldn’t find a move away for him. #THFC #COYS https://t.co/onbkDc8WL1

Massive respect to @Serge_aurier. I always thought he was very underrated for us and the fact that he played 2 days after his brother's death means I'll remember him very fondly. The good memories definitely outweight the not so good ones. https://t.co/bichVM9wDs

Spurs Web Opinion
It is extremely pleasing to see Spurs fans being appreciative of Aurier’s service, particularly in an era where football Twitter is dominated by people who abuse players from their own clubs.
I certainly believe that the Ivorian was a much better player than he was given credit for during his time at Spurs and I have no doubts that he will be picked up by a top club.
