Alfie Devine has sent a clear message to his former club, Liverpool, after netting a brace against them for Tottenham’s Under-23s over the weekend.
Devine was released by Liverpool’s academy when he was 11 years old only to be picked up by Wigan four months later.
The teenager impressed in the Latics youth set up, eventually earning a move to Tottenham last summer.
The midfielder could not have had a better first season in North London, shining for the club’s Under-18s and the Under-23s, while also making his first-team debut in the FA Cup clash against Marine earlier this year.
Devine has carried on from where he left off at the start of the new season, with three goals and an assist in the first four games of the Premier League 2 season.
The 17-year-old put his best performance of the season so far against Liverpool’s Under-23s on Saturday, with his brace helping Tottenham come back from a goal down to win 2-1.
Devine, who penned his first professional contract with Spurs earlier this summer, let his former employers know they made a mistake in letting him go, stating ‘it always comes back to haunt them’.
Here’s what the youngster posted on Instagram following the 2-1 win:

Based on this Instagram post and how he stood up to Danny Drinkwater in an Under-23 clash against Chelsea last season, it is evident that Devine has a feisty side, similar to that of a young Dele Alli. That nasty edge could certainly prove an asset for the youngster as he tries to force himself into the Tottenham first-team over the next couple of years.
