Don Hutchison has revealed his sources told him during the summer that Harry Kane’s move to Manchester City was ‘100% done’ at one point before it eventually collapsed.
Kane was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad last summer, with the striker even allegedly trying to force the transfer by not showing up for pre-season training when he was expected to.
However, Spurs held firm, with Pep Guardiola admitting that Daniel Levy simply refused to negotiate for the striker.
Kane was immediately restored into the starting eleven by Nuno Espirito Santo when it became evident that he would be staying but the 28-year-old has looked a shadow of his former self so far this season.
The England captain came in for plenty of criticism after putting in another poor display in the 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.
Hutchison insisted that it was only natural for Kane to be affected by the failed move to City, asserting the transfer looked certain to go through at one point.
The former West Ham midfielder told BBC’s Monday Night Club (20/09/21): “He’s (Kane) obviously a world-class player.
“His numbers last season were exceptional. When you’ve lost out on a move, it does affect you.
“I am 100% confident in knowing, I couldn’t reveal sources, but he was gone to Man City at one point.
“The deal was 100% done, the fee was £130million. That was the number Levy wanted but his agent, brother Charlie couldn’t get the deal done.
“That will have affected Kane, not getting that move.”

The fact is that Guardiola himself has publicly admitted that Levy refused to even negotiate for Kane in the summer. I would certainly take the Spainaird’s words over that of Hutchison’s sources.
