Paul Robinson has revealed that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to drop their asking price for Harry Winks if the midfielder finds himself struggling for minutes again this season.
Winks was linked with a move away from Spurs during the summer transfer window after he struggled for game time for the majority of last season under Jose Mourinho.
However, the 25-year-old ended up staying put at his boyhood club, with sources claiming that he was keen to fight for his place under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Times reported last week that while Tottenham were open to cashing in on Winks during the summer, the £40m price tag they put on the midfielder stopped Aston Villa and Everton from pursuing the England international.
Robinson believes that Winks is good enough to get into the starting lineup of most Premier League sides and insisted that Spurs might have to drop their price if they wish to cash in on him.
The former Tottenham number one told Football Insider: “Winks needs a break.
“He needs to go to a club week in, week out. If Nuno does not have him as a big part of his plans then he needs to leave and play regularly. Wherever that may be.
“He is a player that I rate very, very highly. I think he gets into most other Premier League teams.
“Winks is never injured, he is always available and is capable of producing seven, eight out of 10 performances on a weekly basis when he is given a run of games.
“Let’s be honest, £40million is a lot for a player that isn’t getting a game. A player is only worth what another club is willing to pay. I think that price tag will drop significantly because there was obviously no willing buyers at that price in the summer.”

While I believe Winks has been scapegoated unfairly by Spurs fans over the last 12 months, this is evidently the last chance saloon for the midfielder if he wishes to save his Tottenham career.
He will be handed minutes by Nuno in the Conference League, FA Cup and League Cup and unless he grabs those opportunities with both hands, he could be on his way out either in January or next summer.
