Some Spurs fans on social media have questioned why Tottenham let Marcus Edwards leave after the Spurs academy graduate produced a Man of the Match display for Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese league on Saturday.
Edwards, who came through the ranks at Spurs, was once even likened to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino but the wide man only managed to make one senior appearance for the Lilywhites.
He left North London to join Guimaraes in the summer of 2019 and has had two solid campaigns in Portugal.
The winger’s performances have allegedly caught the eye of multiple Premier League clubs as well as Sporting Lisbon.
The 22-year-old has made another strong start to the new campaign, with two goals and two assists in all competitions so far.
Edwards produced his best performance of the season on Saturday as Guimaraes came away with a 2-1 win away at Famalicao.
The England Under-20 international scored the winning goal in the second half as he cut in from the right flank and drilled the ball low and hard into the near-post.
You can watch the highlights of the game below:
On the back of his display, some Spurs fans urged the club to re-sign Edwards, along with Ajax star Noni Madueke.

I doubt I’ll ever get over Poch throwing Marcus Edwards under the bus the way he did. https://t.co/S3ilTwHJDC

Noni and Edwards are two players we’re massively going to regret letting go in the future. Osama Pochettino has blood on his hands https://t.co/q1X7IpTTP5

Spurs Web Opinion
It was well documented that Pochettino had issues with Edwards’ discipline, which was why the winger was let go. As well as he is playing in the Portuguese league, I am still not convinced that he is ready to make an impact in the Premier League. That can change in a few years time as Edwards still has time on his side to evolve into a top player.
