Former Tottenham midfielder, Sandro Raniere, has admitted that his decision to leave the North London club in 2014 was the biggest mistake of his career.
Sandro arrived at Spurs from Internacional in Brazil and although he took a while to establish himself in the team, he went on to put in several impressive displays in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield.
His tenacity and strength on the ball earned him the nickname ‘The Beast’ from Spurs fans but the Brazilian’s exit from Spurs coincided with Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival in the summer of 2014.
Sandro’s career has gone on a downward spiral since then, with the midfielder having unsuccessful spells at QPR, West Brom, Antalyaspor, Benevento, Genoa, and Udinese, partly due to injury issues.
The midfielder then had a spell back in Brazil with Goias Esporte Clube before moving to Belenenses in the Portuguese Primeira Liga over the summer.
The 32-year-old has now admitted that he made the decision to leave Spurs for QPR in anger and he regrets the move.
He told Goal.com: “The biggest mistake of my career was leaving Tottenham. I had two years left on my contract. I loved everybody.
“In this situation, I made a bad decision because I didn’t think about the move. I just said: ‘I want to go. I want to move’. I didn’t think about it.
“When I moved to QPR, I was feeling a little bit angry. You can’t make a decision when you’re angry with something. You have to let it go, think and be very calm to make a big decision.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Sandro is one of my favourite ever Spurs players simply because of the fact that he left everything on the pitch and wore his heart on his sleeve.
However, he was on the decline from 2013 when he started getting his knee injuries as he could no longer be the all-action player he was before that.
