Borussia Monchengladbach defender, Matthias Ginter, who is alleged to be of interest to Tottenham, has admitted he has not been offered a new deal by the German club.
Tottenham strengthened their backline through the additions of Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal during the summer transfer window.
Ginter, who has been a consistent performer for Gladbach over the last five years, was another name who was allegedly on the North London club’s radar over the summer (Bild via Sport Witness).
The versatile German international is now into the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham are reported to be monitoring his situation.
Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl insisted last month that the club would do everything they could to tie the centre-back down to a new contract before admitting earlier this week that they were unable to make a suitable offer to the 27-year-old due to the financial impact of the pandemic.
Ginter has now revealed that he has received no update from the club regarding talks over a new contract, describing the situation as worrying.
The German international told Gladbach Live: “He (Eberl) has not yet contacted me. I am curious. But he has also explained why he has not yet been able to make an offer.
“No, there is no such day (when contract talks are scheduled to begin). But I don’t think it will take until spring.
“I know that many contracts at Borussia will expire next year. It remains to be seen when we will sit down.
“There aren’t really any plans yet. Of course, I’m worried because the contract is about to expire and no concrete offer has yet been made. But I’ve never talked about other clubs.
“As long as I wear the Gladbach jersey, it would be unfair and disrespectful to speak publicly about other clubs. I’ll see what happens in the next few weeks. I’m relatively relaxed about the situation.”

Reading between the lines, it sounds like Ginter would prefer to stay if Gladbach are able to afford to offer him a new contract. I would expect plenty of clubs (including potentially Spurs) to test the waters for the 27-year-old in January to try to land him on a cut-price deal.
