Reacting to Giovani Lo Celso’s impressive performance in Argentina’s win over Uruguay, some Spurs fans on social media have questioned why the midfielder is not able to replicate similar performances at club level.
Since signing for Spurs from Real Betis in the summer of 2019, Lo Celso has shown glimpses of his quality but has not been able to deliver consistently for the North London club.
While the 24-year-old has not had an easy time with injuries, he has not set the world alight when opportunities have come his way either.
In stark contrast, the midfielder has had much more success with his national side, playing a valued part in Argentina’s Copa America success over the summer.
Lo Celso was once again on top form for La Albiceleste on Sunday as they overcame Uruguay 3-0 in the World Cup qualifiers.
The Tottenham man was the star of the show, setting up two of the home side’s three goals.
Reacting to his display, some Spurs fans have questioned whether there are issues with the way in which Lo Celso is being used by Tottenham, thus preventing him from replicating his form for Argentina.
Yet some fans will tell you Lo Celso is a washed footballer. His time is coming…

Playing him in his proper position instead of 10 minute man would be a good start…..

Regarding Giovani Lo Celso – it looks like it could be between him and Tanguy to nail down that number 10 spot. One of them succeeding in that role could be so crucial to the outcome of our season. #THFC

Just saying Lo Celso out performing messi without scoring (but getting 2 assists) aint something to ignore, in my opinion, he plays like this because of the feelings and the atmosphere around him. Maybe he doesn't feel at home with tottenham… pic.twitter.com/PSB0r2U03U

Giovani Lo Celso was on fire last night for #Argentina. 8 chances created and two assists.
(Shame he will miss Sunday for Spurs

How is it possible that Lo Celso is a starter for Argentina but not for Spurs

Why’s Lo Celso keep doing well for Argentina then does absolutely nothing for Spurs

Spurs Web Opinion
I do agree with those who say that Lo Celso’s best position is the number ten role that allows the midfielder some freedom to roam.
However, both Alli and Ndombele are also seemingly at their best in the same position and so it does appear like the three players could end up scrapping for one spot in the starting eleven this season.
