Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini has reported that Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Juventus over a potential deal for Weston McKennie in the January transfer window.
McKennie was linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer, with Fabio Paratici alleged to be keen on bringing the midfielder to North London.
The Lilywhites reportedly even offered Tanguy Ndombele to Juventus in a potential swap deal for the USA international but a deal did not materialise.
Spurs have been backed to reignite their interest in the Juventus star when the transfer window reopens in January, with recent reports from Italy suggesting the Old Lady are ready to cash in on the midfielder.
It has also been reported that Juventus could use the midfielder as a makeweight in deals for Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
Ceccarini has now revealed that the Bianconeri could sell McKennie to fund purchases of Massimiliano Allegri’s targets, with Spurs named as a potential destination for the 23-year-old.
Ceccarini told TuttoMercatoWeb (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Another solution could be to sell McKennie.
“Tottenham have made contact with him, but they haven’t gone into detail yet.
“In short, the situation is still evolving, but the feeling is that the Bianconeri club will do everything to give Allegri a purchase of the highest level.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am not convinced that McKennie would be the answer to our problems, especially with Ndombele now seemingly thriving in the no.8/no.10 role. However, I would not be surprised to see Paratici pursue the American, having previously taken him to Turin.
