Some Spurs fans on social media have been left extremely disappointed after reports emerged that Real Madrid could be planning to activate the buy-back clause in Sergio Reguilon’s contract.
Spurs paid £28m to sign Reguilon from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, with the La Liga giants inserting a buy-back clause in the deal that could be activated until the summer of 2022 (Football.London).
After a promising start to his Tottenham career, the left-back had a poor run of form in the final few months of the last campaign.
However, the 24-year-old has looked a different player so far this season and is showing signs of having settled into the Premier League.
Spanish publication El Nacional claim that Carlo Ancelotti has asked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to activate the €40m (£33m) buy-back clause to bring the defender back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Perez is thought to be keen on doing so as he reportedly views the sale of the player as a mistake.
El Nacional further claimed that Reguilon has ‘already said yes’ to a return to Madrid and it is only ‘a matter of time’ before the transfer happens.
Some Spurs fans on social media are extremely disappointed to hear the update on the back of Reguilon’s impressive performances this season.
I’m very torn over this – do we sell for £40m or keep?

I hope we can avoid this, i don't think we can replace him and the option of Davies in the starting XI is not really exciting me too much https://t.co/818xUMndVR

It’s up to the player. Why would Sergio Reguilon want to leave Spurs to play for Real Madrid??

Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that so many Spurs fans are disappointed by the prospect of Reguilon leaving, shows how well the left-back has played this season.
I am not sure this news would have been met with the same reaction over the summer as the jury was still out on the 24-year-old.
I would not be surprised if Reguilon did return to Madrid next summer as he would likely be keen on proving himself at his boyhood club.
