Antonio Conte opened up on the problem of Tanguy Ndombele in his press conference this morning, stating that he has seen many managers struggle with the Frenchman’s position.
Ndombele was signed under Mauricio Pochettino and, despite a fast start to life in North London, he struggled with injuries during the early months.
Jose Mourinho had a topsy turvy relationship with the midfielder, publicly calling him out for poor effort levels against Burnley before eventually finding a home for him in a number ten role with some success.
Ryan Mason ended up dropping Tanguy when he took interim charge and Nuno Espirito Santo decided to deploy him in a more attacking role.
Conte has now revealed that Ndombele will have to work harder than any other player in this Tottenham team, but he has immense talent to work with.
It sounds as if the former Inter Milan boss intends to finally get the best out of the Frenchman, but will demand effort, work rate, and dedication to the team.
He said (Football London): “I have seen many managers struggle with his position.
“He has the quality. He has to understand it is a team and he has to play into the team. It is important to do what the position asks you to do.
“We are working very hard. He has to work much more than the others. He has talent but he has to put it into the team for the team, not for the single player.
“Every single player has to know what he has to do. If every player just runs around the pitch, it will be a mess.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
As always, Tanguy’s success will ultimately come down to Tanguy. If he knuckles down and works hard, he could quite literally become one of the best in the world. If he fails to do that, he risks drifting into the peripheral again in North London.
