Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge believes that Antonio Conte’s post-match comments after the loss to NS Mura were an ultimatum to the Tottenham hierarchy that he will leave the club if he is not given the right tools to work with.
The Tottenham boss rang the changes for the clash against Mura, with several players getting their first starts under the Italian.
However, rather than impressing their new head coach, their performances seemed to show the squad’s lack of strength in depth, which has plagued Tottenham for a fair while.
Speaking after the 2-1 loss, Conte said in his post-match press conference he understands after three weeks in the job that the level of the side is not “high” and that there is a significant gap with the best sides in the Premier League.
The 52-year-old also added that Spurs need more quality to compete against the best sides, insisting that he is not a magician and cannot change things around immediately.
Bridge believes Conte’s messages were meant as a warning for the Tottenham chiefs that he will not stick around for long if there is not sufficient investment into the squad.
Very strong quotes from Antonio Conte after that performance. Reads very simple to me…don’t give him the tools, he won’t be around for too long & that would be an utter disaster. One of the very best in the world. Don’t waste it. #THFC

Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think Conte’s words were an ultimatum of any kind. I believe he was just being honest about his assessment of the quality of the squad.
The Italian would have certainly learned a lot about some of his fringe players on the back of their performance yesterday.
He will likely have made up his mind that a couple of players (maybe the likes of Alli and Sanchez) are not good enough to be part of his plans.
