Paul Merson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
Spurs head into Sunday’s encounter at Turf Moor looking for a response on the back of a poor and embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Slovenian outfit NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.
However, Spurs will be keen to build on last weekend’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Leeds United, which saw Antonio Conte secure his first league win in charge of the club.
Meanwhile, hosts Burnley have struggled for results throughout the course of the campaign so far, and currently sit in the relegation zone with just one win from 12 games.
Sean Dyche’s men played out an back and forth 3-3 draw to Crystal Palace last time out, but crucially saw key players James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood both pick up a one-match suspension after collecting a fifth booking of the campaign.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson was pressed on what he expects will happen between Burnley and Spurs this weekend, and he feels both sides’ streaky form will mean the points will be shared.
He told Sportskeeda: “Antonio Conte has been a good acquisition for Tottenham – he gets them to play well. Harry Kane is yet to hit his peak this season, and he’s shooting at the goalkeeper and hitting the post more often than not at the moment.
“Conte’s players do score goals, and he ensures that his forwards succeed. Harry Kane just needs a little bit of luck to come his way, and he’ll start scoring again. A trip to Burnley is difficult, however, and I see these two teams playing out a draw this weekend.
“Burnley 1, Tottenham Hotspur 1.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Conte will want to put Thursday’s poor showing behind him and look back to last weekend’s performance against Leeds as something to build on.
Burnley is a tough place to go, but they haven’t pulled up trees this season, so this could be a good opportunity for Spurs to claw back some points.
