Antonio Conte has insisted that Tottenham are ready to take to the football pitch again this weekend as they are due to face Liverpool in North London.
Spurs fans last saw their team play back on December 5, twelves days ago in a 3-0 victory over Norwich City in the Premier League.
Since then, the Lilywhites have had three fixtures called off due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, against Brighton, Leicester City and Rennes.
Tottenham even had a fourth postponed due to heavy snow at Turf Moor when they were due to play Burnley, meaning Conte and his men have been starved of football of late.
Spurs are pencilled in to welcome Liverpool to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, although five Premier League fixtures have already been called off this weekend.
It remains to be seen whether Harry Kane and co will be in action in N17 come Sunday, but Conte insists the team are ready to follow Premier League rules.
Conte said: “We are ready to follow the rules, that is the most important thing. If there are rules, they have to be the same for all the teams. We are ready to follow the rules and ready to play.”
However, the Spurs boss declined to comment on the possibility of a ‘circuit breaker’ or early winter break amidst a rise in COVID cases.
On vaccinations, he added (Football London): “Honestly, this is a personal matter the vaccination. I’ve been vaccinated and my family, my daughter and wife, did the same, but for sure, this matter is personal.
“I’d like that other people do the same but every single person needs to take the best decision for himself. I’ve been vaccinated and also my family. We did the vaccination and I think in this moment it’s very important to have this type of solution to the problem.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I believe an early two-week winter break is needed. Reset the isolation periods, let everyone get back to full fitness and go again in the new year, hopefully when the spread of the virus drops off a bit.
