Tottenham Hotspur fell to an embarrassing defeat against Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final this evening, failing to find any rhythm in the match.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 6 – Nothing he could really do about either of the goals. Made some decent stops, albeit ones you would expect him to make. Far from the one to blame.
Emerson Royal – 4 – Looked two yards off the pace. Late to every ball, poor passing, leggy pressing, and no end product once he did get into the final third.
Japhet Tanganga – 2 – A horror show tonight. Sold Emerson short in the build-up to the first goal, then got beaten by the pass too. Second own goal was entirely Tanganga’s making.
Davinson Sanchez – 4 – Moved into the centre and looked out of his depth when dealing with the physicality of Lukaku in the first half. Much better in the second.
Ben Davies – 5 – I can’t say I remember him doing too much wrong. You certainly can’t blame him for the OG. However, he was part of a woeful back three this evening.
Matt Doherty – 4 – Looked very much like an out-of-form right-wing-back playing on his weaker side. Struggled on and off the ball and wasted chances to cross into Kane.
Oliver Skipp – 6 – Although off the pace like everyone else, he was at least getting about the pitch and putting his foot in a bit. The bar was low to stand out tonight.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 3 – Put in a decent showing in the first half then collapsed in the second. Every ball into him seemed to be given away. Shocking 45 minutes.
Lucas Moura – 5 – The brightest spark in a dull attack, but that’s not exactly saying much. He had a few nice turns but the final ball was lacking.
Heung-min Son – 4 – Way off the pace again. Seems to get lost in the pocket and is easily knocked off the ball when his teammates do finally find him.
Harry Kane – 4 – Feeding off absolute scraps this evening. However, when he did get the ball into his feet, he rarely retained it, let alone did anything with it.
Substitutes:
Tanguy Ndombele – 5 – Did a lot more than anyone in the first half after being subbed on, but was still lacking in quality.
Harry Winks – 5 – Came on to add more positive passing but didn’t make much of a noticeable difference.
Giovani Lo Celso – 5 – Came closest to scoring after a Gil cut-back.
Bryan Gil – 5 – Nice to see someone actually take people on and beat them.
