Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his score prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round this evening.
Antonio Conte’s side return to action in a rare home cup tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the Premier League winter break and need to beat Brighton to keep their hopes alive of winning a trophy this season.
The rest window came amid a winter World Cup year, and while it was been ring-fenced by FIFA for international matches, European nations have not scheduled fixtures which gave some members of the Tottenham squad to jet off on holiday (The Sun).
Conte’s side booked their place in the fourth round having turned around a one-goal deficit to beat Morecambe 3-1 during their last fixture in the competition, while Brighton secured a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion.
Lawrenson has backed Tottenham to secure their place in the fifth round of the draw, believing home advantage will play in the Italian’s hands.
He told BBC Sport: “Tottenham did quite a bit of business in January, in both directions, so it will be interesting to see what changes Antonio Conte makes, and where Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur will fit into his team.
“Conte reached the final of the FA Cup in his first season at Chelsea, and won it the following year. I am not sure how he will view it now he is at Spurs, but I think home advantage will help him get past Brighton for starters.
“Mind you, the Seagulls are draw specialists wherever they play so it would not be a surprise if they take this tie into extra time.”
