The Athletic have claimed that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers continues to have ‘influential admirers’ at Tottenham Hotspur.
Rogers was reported to be Tottenham’s first-choice managerial target to replace Jose Mourinho last summer (90 min).
However, Rodgers distanced himself from the Spurs hot-seat, declaring his intention to continue with his project at Leicester. (talkSPORT).
Spurs eventually ended up appointing Nuno Espirito Santo, who lasted just a few months in the hot-seat before being replaced by Antonio Conte.
Rodgers’ stock seems to be falling this season due to Leicester’s struggles, with the Foxes currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League table.
The Athletic have now revealed that the former Liverpool boss rejected Tottenham’s advances last summer since he believed his long-term ambitions would be better served by staying at the King Power Stadium.
However, the report states that despite Leicester’s struggles this season, the 49-year-old still has admirers at Spurs, as well as at Arsenal and Manchester United.
Spurs Web Opinion
In hindsight, Rodgers could well regret his decision to turn down the Spurs job. However, it was a blessing in disguise for us that he did, given that we now have one of the best managers in the world in charge. I was personally never on the Rodgers hype train even during the summer and preferred Graham Potter at the time.
