Eric Dier has called Cristian Romero a ‘top player’ and admits he enjoys playing with the Argentine at Tottenham.
Romero, who joined Spurs from Atalanta last summer, has been enjoying an extended run back in the side after spending three months out with a hamstring injury.
His most recent showing in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Manchester City showcased why the North London club are set to part ways with £42.5 million for his services (Daily Mail), with his aggressive style of defending on show for all to see.
Dier, who returned to the side following injury in Saturday’s win, also demonstrated his defensive capabilities in a breathtaking encounter at the home of the champions.
The England international has since claimed that Romero has adapted to life in the Premier League smoothly and he has enjoyed his short time playing alongside him in Antonio Conte’s defence.
Dier told Football.London: “Cristian is a top player, a really good player and in every way I think he is adapting very well to the Premier League.
“Obviously, he had a really bad injury so he’s obviously coming back from that but everyone can see he’s a fantastic player.
“He came on the back of already winning a Copa America for Argentina and being a standout player in Serie A.
“It’s really enjoyable to play with him and he’s a very good guy as well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Dier and Romero were instrumental in Tottenham’s win at Man City and they defended well in their own respective ways. Both have had their injury layoffs at points this season which has meant Spurs have had to make do without them, but their returns could prove to be huge in the club’s chase for Champions League football.
