Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham should be alarmed by Antonio Conte’s post-match interview after their loss to Burnley, insisting that the Spurs boss sounded as though he is resigning.
The loss at Turf Moor, which was Tottenham’s fourth defeat in five Premier League matches, came as a bitter blow on the back of the club’s morale-boosting 3-2 win over Manchester City last Saturday.
Conte looked like a broken man in his post-match press conference, admitting that he is not one to be content with taking home his salary (Football.London).
The Spurs boss also hinted that he would have a conversation with the Spurs hierarchy regarding his future at the club.
Sherwood believes that the possibility of Conte walking away from Tottenham could be very real on the back of what he said following his side’s defeat against the Clarets.
The former interim Spurs boss told Premier League Productions (23/02/22 at 10:45 pm): “It doesn’t look good.
“It almost looks like he is resigning. Sounded like that. He wanted to have discussions with Daniel Levy and the board. It’s not good enough losing four out of five games.
“The game that they won was against the team no one could beat and it was a fantastic performance. But it’s about getting the consistency. Get your level of performance up.
“We laugh about it. But can you go there on a cold Wednesday night at Burnley, roll your sleeves up and dig it out? Top teams do. They never looked like they were going to win.
“That interview was alarming for me. I think he gets super emotional, we know that. When he wins, he is on a super high and he takes defeat very hard.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am starting to come around to the fact that it would not be disastrous if Conte walks away and we replace him with a long-term project manager.
It is clear that we are not at the level that Conte wants us to be and if he is going to throw a tantrum after every setback, I do not want him at the club.
I think Spurs fans can accept that we are not going to immediately compete with the best sides in the Premier League.
However, I would rather have a manager who is level headed and proud of managing us rather than one who constantly speaks like the job might be beneath him.
