Garth Crooks has included two Tottenham Hotspur players in his team of the week following the 5-1 demolition of Newcastle United.
Tottenham put on a clinical display against the Magpies to rally back from going 1-0 behind after Fabian Schar netted from a free-kick despite having had little of the ball with Ben Davies scoring an important equaliser just minutes before the half time whistle.
Crooks selected Cristian Romero and Harry Kane in his side with the pair having caught the eye yesterday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Romero was once again solid at the back and Tottenham had him to thank for keeping the scoreline level at 0-0 when he superbly blocked Joe Willock’s effort on goal that looked destined for Hugo Lloris’ net.
Crooks said about Romero on BBC Sport: “The block on Joe Willock’s strike on goal was nothing short of brilliant. The Newcastle player looked certain to score. Romero has caught my eye before while playing for Spurs and he’s starting to look like a real player in the Premier League. The longer the game went on against Newcastle the better Romero got. Composed under pressure and very comfortable on the ball when he’s not. However, manager Antonio Conte really needs to fix this Jekyll and Hyde culture in Tottenham’s performances if they are going to secure fourth spot.”
Kane came into his own during the second half of the encounter when he operated in a slightly deeper role and showed off his brilliant range of passing which left Crooks purring over the England captain’s display.
He added: “It’s not often you will find the England captain in my team of the week having not scored a single goal in a 5-1 romp. However, the game against Newcastle United has to be the exception. Kane’s second-half performance was nothing short of sensational. The Tottenham striker’s passing was so precise he could have threaded any one of them through the eye of a needle and it would have still found one of his team-mates. A wonderful individual performance by Kane. I just hope he hasn’t developed a desire for making goals instead of scoring them.”

Tottenham fans can be thankful that they have two world class players at either end of the pitch. Romero’s block on Willock was just as key as Kane’s pass which created the move for Spurs’ third goal.
Hopefully, the pair can continue to lead by example in the push for a top four finish since they both thoroughly deserve to be playing in the Champions League.
