Alasdair Gold expects Fabio Paratici to complete some free deals during this summer’s transfer window.
Tottenham are expected to strengthen significantly this summer, with reports indicating the North London club are prepared to spend big on a left-sided centre-back (The Athletic).
In addition, Antonio Conte is also said to be keen on upgrading his options in both wing-back areas, with the Spurs boss not thought to be convinced by either Sergio Reguilon or Emerson Royal (Football Insider and The Sun).
The Lilywhites have also been linked with some players whose contracts are set to run out at the end of the season, with West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone (Football.London) and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala (Sky Italia) said to be of interest to Spurs.
Gold believes Tottenham’s managing director of football is going to try and secure some free agents this summer, even though those moves might not be popular with the Spurs fan base.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “I think they’ll look at more free transfers as well.
“I know that’s not the sexy thing to do and it won’t excite people, but hey, if it’s Paulo Dybala everyone will change their mind. Paratici likes to look at those free transfers.”
Spurs Web Opinion
What signing free agents or players with one year left on their contract does, is that it allows us to allocate more funds to areas like left centre-back and right wing-back, where we are in need of a massive upgrade.
For example, it would not make much sense to spend upwards of £40m on a central midfielder to replace Winks’ place in the squad, with Hojbjerg, Bentantcur and Skipp already at Conte’s disposal.
