Ryan Sessegnon believes the result of the north London derby could prove decisive in determining who clinches the fourth spot.
Until a couple of weeks ago, Arsenal looked like the favourites to qualify for the Champions League at Tottenham’s expense but the tide has turned since then.
The Gunners have fallen to three defeats in a row to Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton while the Lilywhites went on an impressive run before losing to Brighton yesterday afternoon.
Although Mikel Arteta’s men do have a game in hand over Spurs, they also have a much tougher run-in until the end of the season.
Arsenal visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 12, with the fixture being rearranged after it was called off in January due to a result of suspensions, injuries and Covid-19 in the Gunners camp (Sky Sports).
Sessegnon believes the game will take up even more meaning than usual, given that both teams are fighting for the same objective.
Speaking before the Brighton defeat and when asked about the derby, the Tottenham man told ESPN: “We want to keep the run going and I think the game against them might be decisive.”
“I’m not originally from North London but I know the type of rivalry between London teams, especially with the next-door neighbours there fighting for the same thing.
“It’ll be a crazy, crazy game. For us, if we were to finish fourth, it would be a massive achievement for the club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Given how recent results have gone and the fixtures that Arsenal have, Spurs may be hoping to have built at least a buffer by the time the North London derby comes up.
However, I am sure that Conte will not allow his players to get ahead of themselves and will get them to focus on one game at a time.
